I've tried almost everything above, and more, and I usually end up either not sleeping well or hung over. The best thing that worked for me was Restoril (Temezapam). I used it for 6 months and it was the best - no hangover at all. It can be addictive though. I started with 30mg, then 15mg, then one day when my sleep was good I stopped.

Now I take 1mg of melatonin to take the edge off and fall asleep.

After years of difficulty I found a new product that I use with my usual Trazodone. I'm using Zizyphus Sleep Formula which has helped me dream and feel refreshed.

I got some samples of Lunesta, they work good. I got an RX and the insurance doesn't want to pay for it. Ouch, must be expensive.

Lunesta also works on the GABA receptors like most of the sleep stuff. Low GABA or damaged receptors for GABA.

Taking NutraBio GABA is helping. It makes Ambien more efficient. Maybe it will make the Lunesta more efficient too.

I found it at a Canadian Pharmacy for $129 USD, but I would have to file my own insurance. I've also read warnings that fake Lunesta is out there.

Lunesta helps my depressed son sleep too. I wonder how many depressed ppl actually have a variation of CFS. No drive to do anything useful. He works slowly, got fired from a job again. Late for work. Short term memory. Severe insomnia.

I have to call my doc and insurance company on Monday to try and get the Rx through. Just seeing my son sleep 8 hours, is a thrill and takes a big stress load off of me.

Hi Allwxrider:

Maybe you can have you Dr. write a letter to the insurance company stating that you have tried other sleep meds and this is the only one you can take. This has worked for me with meds in the past.

I get my pets heartworm meds from Canada (Candavet.com)They must be OK, because for 3 years their tests are normal.

I have a 17 year old daughter with depression and sleep problems also. She was on risperdal and celexa for a while and it helped her sleep. Then she started smoking pot which led to other prescription drugs(she got them illegally) to help her sleep. She has been in a halfway house for 7 months now. She is off of all meds and tells me she sleeps now. She is getting counseling for the depression. The halfway house is expensive but I believe it is saving her life.

All of us CFS ppl, have been prescribed antidepressants. My fatigue doc even put me on a mild amphetamine "Dexadrine".

I'm just wondering how many other "depressed" ppl have viruses involved. Lyme and XMRV both shut down the immune system.

When my son attempted suicide, the 2nd time, the ER sent him to a adolescent mental hospital. They never checked his thyroid! The TSH was normal, but the T3 was low. He is on some compounded T4/T3 and it's helping but he won't take it consistently. We discovered this when I talked him into going to the FFC here in Fort Worth.

I have Lyme and herx badly to doxycycline. Maybe he has Lyme too.

It would be interesting to check your daughter's thyroid and a Lyme test. Also Fish Oils and Methyl B12 are often implicated in depression. CyanoB12 didn't do a thing...even injected. My son even tried injectable CyanoB12.

When my son got a Myer's IV at the FFC, he reacted with a big herx. The next day he smiled at me....only a parent with a depressed child would understand how wonderful that is :D

Hi allwxrider.

My daughter attempted suicide and was sent to an adolescent mental hospital(4 times) also. she did not stay long enough to help her. She will be at the Halfway House for 2 years. They take them off all their meds for depression and anxiety because it is thought to trigger the addiction.

I have wondered if she may have CFS. It is hard to make your kids do anything when you feel bad and you think that they may feel as bad as you do. I also wonder if it is hereditary. My older daughter(she's 30)
is starting to have symptoms, too.(pain, fatigue, anxiety,& sometimes trouble sleeping).

I know what you mean about "depressed" people. I was never depressed until I became ill and unable to work.

My faith is what helps me. I will add your son to my prayers.
