So enjoy the roasted barley drinks! "Gluten is a composite of the proteins gliadin and glutenin. These exist, conjoined with starch, in the endosperms of some grass-related grains, notably wheat, rye, and barley. Gliadin and glutenin comprise about 80% of the protein contained in wheat seed. Being insoluble in water, they can be purified by washing away the associated starch. " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluten

Thanks to everyone for their input on my coffee drinking dilemma.
I decided to start drinking coffee again--a cup every morning. I don't feel any better or worse, but I sure do enjoy drinking it. I decided I couldn't stand feeling so deprived all the time and one cup of coffee just didn't seem like that big a deal. As sick as I am, it is difficult to imagine that a cup of coffee would make any real difference.

Did you try the coffee & Chicory? Try licorice tea It does help with adrenal support and its anti-viral. Also try the Linden flower tea for the evening. It helps with sleep. It takes about 1/2 hour to kick in. culinary teas carries it too. I was going to try the Amsterdam Licorice tea, but I was afraid that it might have "rocks" in it. Mary: How is the sauna? BBQ the Lyme!

I haven't tried the chicory yet, but I will. After a week or so of allowing myself to drink coffee, I find I don't really care about it that much anymore! There's a lesson there to be learned...the unforbidden is less enticing the forbidden. Mostly I wanted to drink it because there is a coffee shop near my house that is a bright, cheery place and I thought it would be nice to go there sometimes. I can't leave the house very often but this place is close enough that I can go there and sit on some of my better mornings. I had not heard of Linden flower for sleep but I will definitely try it. I haven't gotten the sauna yet...I sure hope person we are getting it from doesn't change his mind. I'm ready to cook those Lyme beasties.

Hello Everyone:
Pero is an instant coffee substitute made in Switzerland. It is made with barley and chickory. It tastes pretty good to me. It does not taste exactly like coffee maybe like a mixture of hot chocolate and coffee.

I saw now that you can get a sample of the teeccino for free. You have to subscribe for their newletter, then you can choose your own taste, I ordered the Mocha (hopefully they will ship it to me?!). http://www.teeccino.com/secure/register.aspxYou don't have to fill in your phone-number!

Oops...I already gave teecino your phone number. I asked a salesman to call anytime day or night. I also told them that you were going to open a store and wanted a franchise.

I agree with an earlier poster on this topic--there is nothing like coffee. I've tried everything from Teecino to Pero to chicory. Nothing satisfies like a cup of coffee. I know us CFS/FMS sufferers are told to stay away from the evil brew, but in Dr. T's book "From Fatigued To Fantastic!" he does give permission to add back up to eight ounces a day after abstaining for about two or three months. Yay!
