Asthma

Do you have shortness of breath and wheezing? If so, you probably have asthma. Although medications can be helpful for this, asthma can often be treated safely and effectively using natural therapies.

It is important to be sure that you're not being treated for asthma if your shortness of breath is coming from hyperventilation or anxiety attacks. These problems are usually accompanied by numbness and tingling in your fingers, toes, and even around your lips, and attacks usually come and go more suddenly. Have a friend listen to your lungs by putting their ear to your back. If they do not hear wheezing during an attack, the problem may be anxiety or hyperventilation instead of asthma. These can also be treated naturally and information on this can also be found on my web site.

To treat asthma, naturally begin by treating food and inhalational allergies. This can be done by using an acupressure technique called NAET, and more information for this can be found at www.NAET.com.

Nutritional therapies are also important. Asthmatics may be deficient in B vitamins and vitamin C. Take a B complex vitamin of 50 mg or higher and at least 1000 mg of vitamin C daily. Supplementing with the mineral magnesium can also be very helpful. I would take 200-500 milligrams daily, lowering the dose if it causes diarrhea. In the emergency room, intravenous magnesium can also be as effective as the medications that are routinely given and can be added to standard medical therapies. This may markedly improve symptoms and decrease the need for hospitalization. Fortunately, asthma can often be treated safely and effectively without medications.
