Coenzyme Q10 Beneficial in Metabolic Syndrome

In a study involving an animal model of metabolic syndrome which is also associated with an increased risk of oxidative stress and inflammation, treatment with coenzyme Q10 was found to reduce cardiovascular risk associated with the metabolic syndrome. Treatment with coenzyme Q10 significantly:

1.Decreased oxidative and inflammatory stress markers.
2.Prevented the elevation in serum insulin levels.
3.Reduced blood pressure.
4.Improved blood vessel health.

The researchers concluded that "These findings suggest that the antioxidant properties of CoQ10 can be effective for ameliorating cardiovascular risk in metabolic syndrome."

As cholesterol lowering medications also cause coenzyme Q10 deficiency, I recommend that anybody taking these medications also supplement with CoEnzyme Q10 at a dose of 200 mg a day.

In addition, I recommend that males with metabolic syndrome have their testosterone levels optimized.
