Diagnosis & Treatment Overview

The Online Program: Get Diagnosed Now

There is no one specific lab test to confirm that you have CFS. Because of this and other limitations in lab testing, diagnosis is often made by a practitioner and patient after medical evaluation and lab testing have eliminated other possible causes. An experienced practitioner can see subtle nuances in traditional blood testing that indicate CFS/FM. Because of the need to exclude other disorders with similar symptoms, such as Lyme’s Disease, MS or depression, it can often take months of evaluation before a person realizes they have CFS.

If you suspect you have CFS/FM, you should start by educating yourself. Familiarize yourself with the general symptoms and develop a clear understanding of your personal medical history and profile. Read a book on the subject, such as Dr. T's From Fatigued to Fantastic!

You can also diagnose your symptoms right now, at this site, using Dr. T's "Online Program."

The Online Program is an online, patented computer program that will analyze your symptoms and lab results (if available) and design a SHINE treatment protocol for your individual case. The process is simple. You simply register and fill out an online questionnaire. The program will analyze your symptoms and history using the same assessment criteria that Dr. Teitelbaum uses with each of his patients. The result is a list of the suspected underlying causes of your CFS/FM and a detailed treatment plan tailored to your specific symptoms. You can use this with your practitioner as a custom guideline for utilizing prescription remedies. You can begin the natural remedies using dietary supplements on your own.

SHINE Protocol - a Treatment Program Tailored for You

The SHINE Treatment Protocol is a resource developed by Dr. T to guide patients and practitioners in establishing an effective treatment program for CFS/FM.

SHINE is an acronym that stands for Sleep, Hormones, Infections, Nutrition and Exercise (as tolerated). These are the five areas that must be evaluated and treated in order to ensure an effective CFS/FM treatment program. Dr. Teitelbaum’s SHINE Treatment Protocol is a list of specific treatments, broken into categories, that comprehensively address each of the SHINE health issues as they relate to CFS/FM. It is available for free through this site as a downloadable document.
