Chocolate and Memory

Antioxidants are very helpful in keeping us young and healthy. We have long known that they are present in high amounts in real teas (not the sugary stuff sold in bottles which is more like soda pop), and highly colored fruits and vegetables such as blueberries. Recent research is also showing that dark chocolate is very healthy. This is so for a number of reasons, including high levels of antioxidants. In addition, dark chocolate contains PEA-a natural mood elevator. In addition, it contains small amounts of theobromine, which can be a healthy energy booster.

New research is showing that It may also be possible to boost memory with a plant compound called epicatechin, which is found in foods and drinks including blueberries, grapes, tea, and cocoa. In animal studies it helped their memories -- and the hope is that it does the same in humans. If not, we still get to enjoy the chocolate!
