How to Be Part of the D-Ribose Study
Dear Readers,
As part of our efforts to find new, safe, and effective CFS/Fibromyalgia treatments, we are beginning the next phase of our second, placebo-controlled study on a very promising new over-the-counter nutrient. Called D-Ribose (Corvalen), it works by directly increasing energy production (everywhere-including your muscles). We were so impressed with this product that our research center recently completed and published a study using it in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. Two thirds of these desperately ill patients improved, with an average 45% increase in energy and 30% increase in quality of life - outstanding results for a single nutrient! I consider this to be the most important new nutrient discovery of the decade!
When doing research, it is critical to follow up initial studies with “gold standard” placebo controlled research. We are doing this in a large study and have completed the first group. We are now inviting those with CFS and/or fibromyalgia who have never taken Ribose or Corvalen to enter the study. It’s easy and fun to do, can be done from your home by mail, and you’ll get a free bottle of Ribose at the end of the study as our way of saying thank you. You also have a greater than 60% chance of feeling better within just one month!
Ribose is natural, quite safe, tastes good (sweet like sugar but healthy; comes as a powder) and very low in side effects. In rarely instances it can leave you feeling hyper if it increases energy too much. If this happens, simply take it with a meal or lower the dose. If you would like to be part of the study, all you would need to do is take the Ribose three times a day for approximately three weeks (until you finish the bottle) and fill out some paperwork before and after the study. If you would like to be part of the study, please e-mail Lisa ASAP at study@bioenergy.com. Include your name, phone number and mailing address along with a sentence stating that you agree to the qualifications below. This will be limited to the first 200 people. We have tens of thousands of newsletter subscribers, so we expect this phase of the study to fill quickly. For those of you who asked to be in the study before, but were turned down because you had arthritis, we invite you to reapply if you have not yet taken ribose, as arthritis will no longer disqualify you.
If you would like to try the Corvalen, but not participate in the study, it is also available through our web site store for around $50 a bottle. For more information on Ribose, see our recent journal study abstract at the bottom of this page.
To be part of the study:
You need to have been given a diagnosis of CFS and/or fibromyalgia by a physician in the past and not have severe medication and nutrient sensitivities, or other severe illnesses such as cancer, kidney failure, strokes or others.
1. Take 1 level scoop of ribose 3 times each day. It tastes like sugar and can be mixed with food, water or other beverages.
2. Stay on and current treatment(s) you may be on, and do not add any other new treatments or stop old ones while you are on the Ribose. It is helpful (but not necessary) for you to be on a B complex vitamin as well.
3. To sign up to be part of the study, or for more information, contact Lisa at study@bioenergy.com.
Thank you for helping with the study. This is how we learn!
Best wishes,
Jacob Teitelbaum MD
The Use of D-Ribose in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia: A Pilot Study
JE Teitelbaum, C Johnson, and JS Cyr
J Altern Complement Med, November 1, 2006; 12(9): 857-62.
Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers, Dallas, TX.
Objectives: Fibromyalgia (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are debilitating syndromes that are often associated with impaired cellular energy metabolism. As D-ribose has been shown to increase cellular energy synthesis in heart and skeletal muscle, this open-label uncontrolled pilot study was done to evaluate if D-ribose could improve symptoms in fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue syndrome patients. Design: Forty-one (41) patients with a diagnosis of FMS and/or CFS were given D-ribose, a naturally occurring pentose carbohydrate, at a dose of 5 g t.i.d. for a total of 280 g. All patients completed questionnaires containing discrete visual analog scales and a global assessment pre- and post-D-ribose administration. Results: D-ribose, which was well-tolerated, resulted in a significant improvement in all five visual analog scale (VAS) categories: energy; sleep; mental clarity; pain intensity; and well-being, as well as an improvement in patients' global assessment. Approximately 66% of patients experienced significant improvement while on D-ribose, with an average increase in energy on the VAS of 45% and an average improvement in overall well-being of 30% (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: D-ribose significantly reduced clinical symptoms in patients suffering from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
