Five Vices That Can Improve Health!
Dear Readers,
I often tell the doctors I teach, "If people get a long life by cutting out everything they enjoy, then why bother?"
Medicine seems to suffer from the horrible misconception that if things are enjoyable, then they must be bad for you (and vice versa). What a horrible myth! I have found that your body knows better than any physician what is good for you — and tells you by how you feel over time. So if you feel great doing what you're doing, I suspect it's working. On the other hand, most things that really are bad for you will leave you feeling worse overall. I find that Mark Twain was on the mark when he advocated "Moderation in all things — including moderation!"
As an example, people who drink occasional alcohol live longer than those who don't. On the other hand, a heavy night of drinking may feel fun while you're doing it, but the hangover the next day tells you otherwise!
Here are five "vices" that can actually be good for you.
COOL NEW BOOK
Earthing — A Cool New Book
When was the last time your bare feet touched the earth?
With the soles of shoes being made of insulating materials, cities being covered in asphalt, and most of our homes offering little or no contact with the ground, you may find that it's been a while. This is especially so for people who live in big cities.
Why is this important? New research suggests this can contribute to insomnia, pain, fatigue and immune dysfunction (sound familiar?). The good news? Treatment may be as simple as walking barefoot — with marked benefits!
More by Dr. Stephen Sinatra
The following is a link to a new article discussing Dr. Sinatra's work suggesting that Ribose, CoQ10 , magnesium and acetyl-l-carnitine are the "Big 4" for energy production. I would add B vitamins to these. In addition, our most recent ribose/Corvalen study showed an average 61% increase in energy at 3 weeks. This study was done at 53 medical clinics and included 257 CFS/fibromyalgia patients.
RESEARCH BRIEFS

Dark Chocolate Helps Lower High Blood Pressure
Dark Chocolate helps lower high blood pressure (although no effect on normal or low blood pressure). This translates to a 20% drop in heart attack risk over 5 years, which is similar to the benefit of walking 20-30 minutes a day. I would go for both the chocolate (go for quality, not quantity) and walking! Read more »

Score Another One for Sunshine and Vitamin D
In addition to vitamin D being associated with a lower risk of cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and numerous other illnesses, this new study suggests it may also be associated with a 2/3 lower risk of Parkinson's Disease. Read more »
