Can Testosterone Be Good for You?

Dear Readers,

Many anti-aging specialists are finding that natural bio-identical testosterone creams (not to be confused with high dose synthetics injected illegally by some athletes) keep those over 50 years old WITH SUBOPTIMAL TESTOSTERONE LEVELS younger and healthier—and this is for both men and women! A rapidly expanding collection of research is showing that optimizing testosterone in men:

1. Decreases the risk of heart disease, including angina, and helps reverse heart disease when present—while lowering cholesterol levels.

2. Improves insulin sensitivity, thus improving blood sugar control in diabetics as well as decreasing a major cause of heart disease and diabetes called "metabolic syndrome."

3. Improves muscle mass.

4. Improves libido and sexual function.

5. Decreases depression.

In addition, taking testosterone does NOT appear to increase the risk of developing prostate cancer.

In women, optimizing testosterone along with using safe BIO-IDENTICAL estrogen and progesterone seems to work the best, helping energy, libido and overall well being. As is usually the case, be sure to use bio-identical hormones. When looking at the overall safety and effectiveness data, one finds that treating testosterone deficiency in men (called "Andropause") as well as in women can help you feel young and vital late into life!

SPECIAL REPORT

Help for Stuttering and/or Dysfluency

If you or someone you know stutters or has dysfluency (where you know the word but can't get it out—occurring since childhood) we have recently found that the medication Ultram (available in generic as tramadol) has helped 2 of our patients dramatically within days of taking it. The dose needed can be fairly low (50-100 mg 1-2x a day) though higher doses can be tried. Our foundation is considering doing a study to see what percent of stutterers improve on this treatment.

If you stutter and decide to ask your physician to prescribe this medication to see if it helps, PLEASE let us know the effect, either positive or negative. This information will help us design our study to help the most people possible. Ultram is available in a generic form, so it's inexpensive. Unfortunately this means that the drug companies may not be interested in promoting this medication for stuttering. So it will be up to us to get the word out if it is indeed proven beneficial. To report your experience, get info or if you are a researcher who works with speech issues, please contact us at endfatigue@aol.com. Please also pass this along to anyone you know who stutters, so we can all help each other! :-)

RESEARCH BRIEFS

Low Testosterone Associated with Higher Risk for Depression

Men with low testosterone were almost 3 times as likely to be depressed (see Natural Treatments for Depression) as those with higher testosterone levels. Depression is NOT a Prozac deficiency! Read more »

Studies Show Optimal Testosterone Levels Associated with Longer and Healthier Life

More and more studies are showing that low testosterone is associated with increased deaths at a younger age—especially from heart disease. This is discussed by Professor Adrian Dobs of Johns Hopkins Medical School. Read more »

Testosterone Therapy May Improve Metabolic Syndrome

Another study suggests testosterone therapy can improve metabolic syndrome, decreasing the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Sexual function also improved—but only when blood levels were optimized. Read more »

QUOTE/JOKE OF THE WEEK

We thank Isi T for this weeks joke:

Last week was my birthday and I didn't feel very well waking up on that morning. I went downstairs for breakfast, hoping my wife would be pleasant and say, "Happy Birthday!" and possibly have a small present for me.

As it turned out, she barely said good morning, let alone "Happy Birthday."

I thought... Well, that's marriage for you. But the kids... They will remember.

My kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast and didn't say a word. So when I left for the office, I felt pretty low and somewhat despondent.

As I walked into my office, my secretary Jane said, "Good Morning Boss. And, by the way, Happy Birthday!" I felt a little better that at least someone had remembered.

I worked until one o'clock, when Jane knocked on my door and said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day outside, and it is your birthday. What do you say we go out to lunch, just you and me."

I said, "Thanks, Jane, that's the greatest thing I've heard all day. Let's go!"

We went to lunch, but we didn't go where we normally would go. She chose instead a quiet bistro with a private table. We had two martinis each, and I enjoyed the meal tremendously. On the way back to the office, Jane said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day... We don't need to go straight back to the office, do we?"

I responded, "I guess not. What do you have in mind?"

She said, "Let's drop by my apartment. It's just around the corner."

After arriving at her apartment, Jane turned to me and said, "Boss, if you don't mind, I'm going to step into the bedroom for just a moment. I'll be right back."

"Ok," I nervously replied.

She went into the bedroom and, after a couple of minutes, she came out carrying a huge birthday cake... followed by my wife, my kids, and dozens of my friends and co-workers, all singing "Happy Birthday."

And I just sat there... On the couch... Naked.
