Treating Diabetes Naturally—Part 1

Dear Readers,

Diabetes is an increasingly common problem, associated with excess sugar intake and low fiber in adults and autoimmune illness (often following certain infections) in children. It bears noting that in countries with non westernized diets, diabetes is essentially unheard of—until the diet changes to high sugar and low fiber. Because of this, diabetes is largely a disease caused by our "modern" diet.

In addition, in adult diabetes testosterone levels are very important. In men, when diabetes is associated with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a large waistline (called "metabolic syndrome"), a low or low normal testosterone level is often present and is CAUSING the diabetes. By optimizing levels by using bioidentical testosterone, blood sugars and cholesterol often come down, angina decreases, depression lifts and libido and muscle mass improves. This is discussed in my article on using natural testosterone.

In women, however, too high a testosterone can actually cause insulin resistance and diabetes, as is seen in a condition called "Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome" (PCOS). This can often be remedied nicely with a medication called "metformin" (be sure to take vitamin B12 with it—available in the vitamin powder—as metformin lowers B12 levels). Interestingly, treating for a low adrenal can actually lower blood sugar in these cases.

Losing weight and increasing exercise can do wonders for adult diabetics, and nutritional support can prevent or reverse many of the complications of diabetes.

HELPFUL STUFF

Many people with CFS & FMS suffer not only from their illness, but also from financial stress. With winter coming, heating bills are an issue. The U.S. government recently allocated over $5 billion from the federal government's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The funds will assist eligible low-income households in meeting their heating and other energy needs.

Of the $590 million in contingency funds, $100 million will assist states where large numbers of eligible households use heating oil for heat: Alaska, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The remaining $490 million will help individuals in all 50 states.

Click here to see a complete list of state allocations of the funds released today.

To find out how you can get money to help pay heating bills, visit the Campaign for Home Energy Assistance.

Sugar Worsens NMH and POTS

More evidence sugar can aggravate CFS/FMS. In this study, drinking sugar water (like sodas) worsened the drop in blood pressure during standing (and likely also exercise), which is often seen in CFS (called NMH and POTTS). Read more »

JOKE OF THE WEEK

Our thanks to Autumn for this week's joke—

A miserly man made his wife promise him that when he died she would bury his whole fortune with him.

When the husband died the wife approached the casket and tucked an envelope under her husbands arm, then tearfully walked away.

A friend noticed what she had done and inquired. The wife explained her promise to her dying husband to which the friend exclaimed, "You didn't put all his money in there did you?"

"Of course," replied the wife, "I wrote him a check!" Then she smiled and walked away.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Some post Halloween thoughts—

What do you get when you cross a vampire and a snowman? Frostbite.

How do witches keep their hair in place while flying? With scare spray.

Why did the vampire subscribe to the Wall Street Journal? He heard it had great circulation.

What happened to the guy who didn't pay his exorcist? He was repossessed.
