Fibromyalgia and CFS Update, Sleep Relief
Dear Readers,
Because of the importance of getting a good nights' sleep, this newsletter will continue last issue's discussion on sleep. Whether you have CFS or fibromyalgia, or are simply looking to get some much needed sleep, natural relief is on the way — for both you and your children.
Some of you have asked about the cause of insomnia in your preteen children. This is fairly common, and understanding what is happening is critical to solving the problem. For more information on this, see Insomnia in Children Ages 5-12.
For adults with insomnia, including those with CFS & fibromyalgia, you can get a good night's sleep. Click here to see how.
If your mind is wide awake at bedtime after being exhausted all day, you may have your day/night cycles reversed. This can cause adrenal cortisol hormones to be too low during the day and too high at night. This problem can be helped with a new herbal mix called “Sleep Tonight!” If you have this “wide awake at bedtime problem," see More Help for Insomnia.
For overall herbal help getting a great night's sleep, my favorite is the Revitalizing Sleep Formula. This mix of 6 herbs works well with the first dose, increases in effectiveness over time, and can be used regularly or as needed.
Isn't it time you got a great night's sleep?
SPECIAL REPORT
For decades we have been discussing how CFS & fibromyalgia represent a problem with energy production in our body's mitochondrial energy furnaces. This then causes the areas using the most energy to malfunction. These are:
| 1. | The hypothalamus in the brain — which controls sleep (thus causing severe insomnia), hormone levels, temperature, and sweating. Its malfunctioning is like "blowing a fuse." | |
| 2. | Muscles. When they do not have enough energy, they get stuck in the shortened position and hurt. |
Poor energy production is one reason why ribose (Corvalen) is so dramatically effective in increasing energy production (by an average of 45% after 3 weeks in our published study).
In support of this, Dr. Sarah Myhill and her coauthors recently published a paper documenting malfunction of the mitochondrial energy furnaces in CFS, which showed the degree to which this energy production dysfunction correlates with the level of disablity in people with CFS. Dr. Myhill has a reputation for being a wonderful and respected CFS practitioner and researcher. She lives in the UK, and her website can be visited at www.drmyhill.co.uk.

RESEARCH BRIEFS
We are a sleep deprived society, having gone from an average of 9 hours a night 100 years ago to about 6.5 hours a night in 2008 — and even less for many of you with insomnia from CFS or fibromyalgia. But you can get your 8 hours a night, and will feel better and be healthier for it!
Feel Free to Nap without Guilt: It Actually Improves Memory!
Historically, naps after lunch (i.e., taking a siesta) used to be more the rule than the exception. Then we moved from working out of our homes or farms into offices and factories — where a mid day nap was seriously frowned upon. Now that the Internet age (and kids being at school) has more people being at home after lunch, maybe taking an afternoon nap should be "rediscovered." New research suggests that taking a nap may improve a sophisticated kind of memory that helps us see the big picture and get creative. Read more »

This Week's Joke:
A middle aged woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table, she had a near death experience.
Seeing God, she asked, "Is my time up?"
God said, "No, you have another 43 years, 2 months and 8 days to live."
Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a face lift, brow lift, lip enhancement, breast enlargement, lipo-suction, and tummy tuck.
After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was hit and killed by a car.
Arriving in front of God, she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 40 years? Why didn't you pull me out of the path of the car?"
God replied, "Girlllllll, I didn't even recognize you!"
